Dilek Turkmenoglu

Dilek Turkmenoglu was born in Turkey and grew up in Izmir, a coastal city. The sea and the large cargo ships in the city port were among her first memories. Thus, the traces of water always took place in her works.

After graduating with a Fine Arts degree, she lived many years in Kayseri – a city bearing traces of the Roman-Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. For her, time and memories accompany a perception composed of layers.

She seeks to make sense of being in between by discovering traces of here, there, and time in her works. Her works touch on several themes from this perspective. While architecture positions our relationship with space, water generates personal thoughts about our existence through what it evokes in mythological imagination.
